Published on 23rd December 2016
Over 100 industry leaders attended the annual PPMA’s Chairman’s Lunch held at the Houses of Parliament in London. The event was presided over by the Right Honourable Tom Brake MP, Chief Whip and Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader of the House of Commons. The topic for the day focused on ‘Leadership’ and inspiring talks were given by speakers from within the manufacturing industry.
The programme included presentations by:
- ‘The Leadership Vacuum’
Grant Jamieson, Chairman – PPMA & Managing Director, Winkworth.
- ‘The Importance of Leadership’
Peter Anderton – Internal Alignment.
- ‘Leadership in a Perfect Storm’
Eliza Rawlings – MD, Festo Ltd.
- ‘The Importance of Leadership in the Technical Arena’
Keith Thornhill – Siemens Ltd.
“Creating and developing leaders is a challenge within any industry. The fundamental aim is to have a broad choice of candidates to work with but leadership is not for everyone. Our industry currently suffers from an ageing workforce profile due to diminished entrants to engineering over the past 25 years and, as a result of this, a leadership vacuum now exists.” said Grant Jamieson, Chairman of the Processing & Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA) and Winkworth’s Managing Director.
“As Chairman, it’s been my privilege to serve for the past two years. I am handing over the reins to Mark Williamson, Director of Stemmer Imaging. I will become the Vice Chairman and will give Mark my full support. Feedback received today from the PPMA members were extremely positive.” added Grant.
After the presentations and a three-course lunch, PPMA members were invited to go on a tour of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
