Role Objective: (brief summary of key function of role and where it fits into the organisation)
To manufacture machined components as specified in drawings and manufacturing work instructions whilst employing good, safe and efficient manufacturing practices for the timely production of parts.
Key Responsibilities: (list key tasks, responsibilities, deliverables etc.)
- Machining of various materials, predominantly stainless steel, but also mild steel, phosphor bronze, PTFE, various plastics and other materials as required
- Use of various machinery and equipment (manual and CNC) as required, but with focus upon large manual horizontal borer (Kearns Richards) large manual centre lathes (Binns & Berry), milling machines, radial drills, etc. CNC ‘s Hurco & Romi
- Man multi machines where cutting cycles permit
- Translate drawn requirements into manufactured components efficiently
- Make suggestions for optimising designs for ease of manufacture
- Work according to written manufacturing instructions
- Administrate as requested in support of quality, production and cost controls
- Liaise with other machinists to ensure optimum production, making suggestions for optimising designs for ease of manufacture
- Cleaning of machinery as and when required
- Maintenance of cutting tools as required
- Manufacture of minor components that require a make-to-suit approach
- Make jigs and fixtures as required to aid machining
- Maintain at all times an appropriate level of good housekeeping and cleanliness
Skills & Experience: (include generic, specific sector, people management, languages, etc.)
- Ideally, time served, with at least 5 years’ machining and or tool-making experience
- Conversant in reading engineering drawings and work instructions
- Proficient in setting and operating of large horizontal borer and centre lathes
- Programming settings and operating CNC machine with Hurco and Siemens controls would be advantageous but not essential
- Working to tight tolerances of up to 0.02mm
- Proficient in the use of measuring equipment for checking of machined parts
Educational Qualifications – Minimum academic level required:
City & Guilds / B Tech First Certificate / NVQ L2
